The NC Lawyer Referral Service is operated by the North Carolina Bar Association. Contact the Service to get the name of an attorney who will provide a one-half hour of advice for up to $50, on the legal subject that you specity. Call 1-800-662-7660 or submit a request online.
Legal Aid of North Carolina provides free advice and representation to low-income people in all 100 counties of North Carolina. Apply for help at your nearest Legal Aid of North Carolina office, call the HelpLine at 1-866-219-5262, or apply online.
In Mecklenburg County and in west-central North Carolina, Legal Services of the Southern Piedmont provides free advice and representation to low-income people with problems such as public benefits, immigration, consumer issues, and mortgage foreclosures.
In Buncombe County and surrounding counties, Pisgah Legal Services provides free advice and representation to low-income people with civil (non-criminal) legal problems.
