Who We Are

Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is a statewide, nonprofit law that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income people in order to ensure equal access to justice and to remove legal barriers to economic opportunity.   The legal staff of Legal Aid of NC - Sylva Office provides legal assistance in civil matters to eligible, low-income clients who have problems with their basic needs and live in the seven-county area surrounding Sylva, NC:

   Graham County
   Haywood County
   Jackson County               
   Macon County
   Qualla Indian Boundary         
   Swain County   
  


The Sylva Office also serves eligible clients in the Qualla Indian Boundary, which is served through weekly office hours at the Cherokee Court house in addition to the general intake conducted at the Legal Aid office located in Sylva, NC.  The Sylva Office of Legal Aid of NC also has a satellite office located in Hayesville, NC.


Please note that Legal Aid of NC (LANC) does not provide legal assistance via E-mail. Rather, please telephone or come to the LANC office to request assistance.

Income Guidelines

There are some limited exceptions. Please call the Legal Aid of NC office in Sylva to see if you are eligible for our services.

Sometimes clients have to pay court costs such as filing fees.

Your family's income should be at or below the following percentage of the federal poverty level 125
Is this organization accessible by wheelchair? Yes
