This publication, written by Veterans for America, is instrumental in helping veterans and current service members, especially those who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, get the help they need and deserve. It was published in 2009 so more recent changes will not be included.

The Guide provides detailed information about all the VA benefit programs, including:

  • service connected compensation;
  • need-based pension;
  • VA overpayments;
  • education assistance and vocational rehabilitation;
  • VA housing;
  • VA medical care
  • VA programs for family members and survivors;
  • employment, self-employment and small business

It also covers laws and benefits specific to service members, including:

  • USERRA protections,
  • correcting discharge conditions or military records,
  • early discharge or separation,
  • SCRA protections,
  • voting rights,
  • family law,
  • sexual assault/rape in the military
  • immigration.

The guide also addresses the Uniform Code of Military Justice and veterans in the civilian criminal justice system.
